Nikos Galenianos (b. 1985) acquired in Greece degrees in classical piano and music theory studies. While working on music, he studied law and graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Between 2013-2017 he studied and graduated ”cum laude”, composition, from the Classical Music Academy of Rotterdam (Codarts). Ηe has attended composition lessons with Peter Jan Wagemans, Robin de Raaff, Klaas de Vries, electronic composition with Rene Uijlenhoet, masterclasses with Johannes Schoellhorn, Mark Andre, Klaus Lang, Simon Steen-Andersen and also courses at the ”sonology department” of the Royal Conservatory of the Hague.
He has composed, after commission, for Doelen ensemble, for the ”Classic Young Masters” organisation and he was one of the six graduates of the Dutch-conservatories for 2016-2017 who was selected to compose for the ”Gaudeamus Muziekweek” festival in September 2017.
Works of his have been performed at venues and occasions such as Gaudeamus Muziekweek Festival, De Doelen, Boijmans van Beuningen museum, the Greek National Opera, Onassis Stegi Foundation, the Athens Concert Hall, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Athens Tedx Academy, the Greek National Theater, the National Theater of Northern Greece, the small and the big theater of Epidaurus etc.
He has cooperated with theater directors such as Nikita Milivojevic, Thomas Moschopoulos, Kostas Filippoglou, Sofia Paschou, with the groups Patari Project, Fly Theater, Rafi, etc. In April 2019, his music-theater work ”Return, a polyphonic work based on the original text of Dante’s Inferno” was presented at the Greek National Opera Alternative Stage. For this work he used the original text of Inferno and the sound and pulse of Dante’s language, as primal material. This project relates to his general interest on the ”musicality” of existing ancient and medieval texts.”Canto 1”, which is part of this project, received honourable mention at ”On the Music Waves” music contest.
He is member of the contemporary music ensemble TETTTIΞ, found in 2017. The ensemble mainly consists of composers and instrumentalists who met during their staying in the Netherlands. Its goal is bringing classical contemporary repertoire to the foreground and the creation of holistic performances. He is also a member of the group ”handful of windows”, a free improvisation group shaped in Rotterdam, with principal instruments the accordion (Stamatis Pasopoulos-Gr), the panflute (Christoph Blum-Ch) and the piano (Galenianos), with whom he has performed in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Greece.
His educational activity includes a composition laboratory for composers in Greece and improvisation masterclasses for children and adults. Currently he is attending the master composition course at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague.
