Bikakis Othonas-Cretan Lyra

He was born in Athens and comes from Chania, Crete. He graduated from the Cretan Lyre Department of the Hellenic Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Zacharias Spyridakis.

He attended Byzantine music lessons with Emmanouil Haniotis, seminars on Modal Music with George Pappas, Tasos Poulios and Alexandros Papadimitrakis and seminars with soloist and composer Ross Daly at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop.

He started as a Cretan lyre teacher and as a soloist at events in Greece and abroad. In 2015, he released his personal album entitled “TOO KOSMOS O SAITEYTIS”, with his own original compositions, performed by his partner and friend Andreas Fasakis and with the participation of renowned musicians such as Ross Daly and Christos Tzifakis.

In 2021, his Music Education Book “INTRODUCTION TO CRETAN LYRIC LYRIC SINGING FOR ARCHARIOS No.1” was released by the music publications “Fagotto Books”. He has taken part in the 7th Houdetsi Music Festival in Heraklion, Crete, the Yakinthia Festival in Rethymno, Crete, the Festival of the Ethnomusicological Institute of the University of Music Vienna, etc. He has participated as a lyricist and arranger in albums of composers and composers and has undertaken the musical editing of many songs. He also collaborated for more than ten years with the Association for the Promotion of National Music Simon I. Kara (KEPEM).

He has taught Cretan lyre for many years in public music schools, and continues to teach in music schools, conservatories and cultural associations.
