Makropodis Dimitrios was born in Corfu. He studied Piano, Advanced Theory, Orchestration, Orchestration and Composition.
He is the founder and artistic director of the Contemporary Conservatory of Athens (S.O.A.), teacher of Advanced Theory, Orchestration, Orchestration and Composition. In the past he was the artistic director of the Sibelius Conservatory, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Association of Owners of Recognized Musical Institutions.
He has written works for piano, choir, orchestra and chamber music, many of which have been performed by notable soloists and ensembles (such as the VIOS String Orchestra, the string orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, the Louisiana Synfonnieta of the United States. Union of Greek Composers, etc.) both in Greece and abroad, receiving excellent reviews.
He has collaborated with important educational institutions and soloists in Greece and abroad, such as the University of Athens (festive concert of the string orchestra of the S.O.A.. (with concerts and seminars by Sergei Kravtchenko – director of the violin faculty and Mikhail Ovtchinikov – rector of the University), the Tchaikovsky Academy in Moscow (with concerts and seminars by Sergei Kravtchenko – director of the violin faculty and Mikhail Ovtchinikov – rector of the University), Gazi University in Ankara giving a lecture within the framework of the International Congress of Music, with the participation of European and Turkish countries (International Congress of Music) – 2003, Luisianna State University of the U.S. The University of Luisianna University in concerts and recordings in Greece and the U.S.A. on his own and his students’ works and MASTER CLASS with Dinos Konstantinidis – conductor and professor of composition at the University.
In 1998, his successful collaboration with the Tchaikovsky Academy of Moscow and the Russian Ministry of Culture resulted in the Old Philharmonic Orchestra of Corfu being sent to Moscow to participate in the artistic events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the city.
He was the artistic director of the string orchestra <<VIOS>> of the Athens Contemporary Conservatory with which he has successfully collaborated with institutions such as the cultural organization of the Municipality of Athens in musical events and artistic events, the Piraeus Bar Association in a large concert held under its auspices, etc.
The Municipality of Corfu entrusted him with the direction of the festival where he held a series of events in historical places of the city under the title “DREAM IN THE CYMA” (August ’99), etc.
The S.O.A. http:www.mysync.gr is one of the nine Conservatories of Attica that were selected for the participation of its students in educational – training programs, conducted by the Athens Concert Hall.
